Challenge

AxiaOrigin, a management consultancy firm, works with businesses on solving their most complex problems. Their client was building a ‘Global Culture Index’, a global study of how people from each country understand their own culture and other countries’ cultures. To create the index, nationally representative samples were collected in 50 countries across the world. Timelines were tight: we had less than a month end-to-end to complete the study.

In order to rise to this challenge, there were a number of difficult considerations to overcome:

  • Achieving a nationally representative profile in hard-to-reach markets while retaining high data quality e.g., in Sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia
  • Scaling up the size of the project to achieve a large sample size, and delivering this data within the given timelines
  • Delivering a complex survey structure to meet the research objective, by implementing new data structures with our expert team of engineers

Focaldata handled everything from scripting and translations, through to fieldwork management, data quality and data delivery. Translations were processed in 5 days, going through quality control of native proofreaders to ensure accuracy. This gave AxiaOrigin with more time and thinking space to develop their data models and take a deep dive into the story that the data was producing.

Ensuring high data quality, for trustworthy results

The results provided were of exceptional quality. Among a larger pool of respondents who qualified for the survey, we only retained the top 50% most high-quality respondents. At Focaldata, we carefully select the respondents we retain in our final samples using both automated checks and human review. These AI-powered automated checks automatically remove speeders, bots, and flatliners, while waves of human reviews by members of the research team mean we could provide complete trust in the results.

We had an extremely complex project that we needed a partner to help us deploy in the field - just under 40,000 respondents on a complex survey of 200 questions to be deployed in 50 countries and across multiple languages. The survey also had different versions that needed to go out to different portions of our sample sizes, which needed to be nationally representative.
