Westminster voting intention: Labour, Conservatives and Reform effectively tied

April 15, 2025

Main headlines

  • Labour (24%), the Conservatives (24%) and Reform UK (23%) are effectively tied in our latest Westminster voting intention survey, with the Liberal Democrats on 13% and the Greens on 9%. Fieldwork was conducted 11-14 April 2025.
  • Labour is unchanged since late February, with the Conservatives up 1 point and Reform up 2 points.
  • Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves remain deeply unpopular, with net favourability scores of -35 and -37 percentage points, respectively. Notably, Reeves is even underwater by 3 points (30% favourable; 33% unfavourable) among 2024 Labour voters.
  • The survey was conducted using our new methodology, following our review into our performance at the 2024 general election, which you can read here.

More details

  • Just 19% of voters approve of the government's performance to date, with fewer than 1-in-10 of those aged 65+ holding a favourable view.
  • In better news for the government, a clear majority of voters back the renationalisation of British Steel, with 61% in favour and just 15% against. Supporters of all major parties back the plans, including two-thirds of Reform voters.
  • Donald Trump's tariffs have seemingly tarnished the reputation of the United States overseas, with only 51% of Brits now seeing the US as friendly or an ally, down 14 points since we asked the same question in February.
  • A plurality of voters (38%) think Keir Starmer and the government have been 'too soft' on Donald Trump, including 34% of those currently intending to vote Labour. Voters back retaliatory tariffs on the United States by 43% to 33%.
  • Brits generally have little faith in the country’s leaders to deal with Donald Trump. When presented with all the major party leaders on who would be best to deal with the US president, over 40% of respondents chose ‘none of these’ or ‘don’t know’. Nigel Farage narrowly came out on top with just 22%.
