German general election: What matters to voters?
December 16, 2024
To understand the dynamic of the German general election better and assess what voters like to see from a potential CDU/CSU government, Focaldata has conducted a national representative poll with 3,005 German voters and a poll with 2046 individuals who indicated that they will or considering voting for the CDU/CSU in February 2025. The first poll was run from the 7th to the 11th of December 2024 and the second one from the 7th to the 16th of December 2024.
- Overall migration, integration, and the economy matter most to Germans in the upcoming election on the 24th February 2025.
- If the CDU/CSU leads the next German federal government, voters want them to focus on new reforms, particularly concerning internal economy and welfare policies rather than climate change, migration, or foreign policies.
- German voters believe that Germany should make more foreign policies independently from the US after the re-election of Donald Trump, even if it leads to short-term financial disadvantages and reduces Germany’s foreign influence.
